I Ran One Resume Through 6 Free ATS Resume Checkers

Most roundups never open the tools. I did. Here is which ones give a real score with no signup, what each one quietly gates, and the one worth keeping open while you edit.

Key Takeaways

  • Most tools that call the check "free" still make you create an account before you see a score. Jobscan and Resume Worded both do. Enhancv wants your email.

  • For repeated checks with no signup and no limit, our own ATS Resume Checker is the one I keep open while editing. I build it, so weigh that, and I tested it the same way as the rest.

  • Only one tool I tested scores your formatting without uploading your file. Every other checker sends your resume to its servers to run the scan.

  • Kickresume's ATS checker is not free at all; it is a paid feature. MyPerfectResume's scan is free, but the fixes are paywalled and its billing reputation is poor.

  • No tool wins every job. Jobscan reads a single posting deepest, Resume Worded writes the best feedback, and you can check your score free with us as many times as you want.

How I Tested These

To find the best free ATS resume checker, I built one resume and ran it through every tool, so the only thing changing was the checker. It is a mid-level software engineer with a five-year history, a single-column layout, standard headings, real dates, and an email, phone, and LinkedIn in the body. Clean on purpose, so any score difference reflects the tool and not a broken file.

Full disclosure: I build ATS Resume Checker, one of the six tools here. I ran it the same way as the others and I will tell you exactly where it loses. For each tool I checked one thing first, can you get a real score without an account, then recorded what the free tier actually includes, where the file goes, and how long it took. Where a signup wall blocked the check, that wall is the finding, and I wrote it down as one.

Same resume, every tool

One mid-level engineer resume, built to parse cleanly, uploaded to each checker unchanged.

Free score, or a wall

I looked for a real score before any account. If a signup blocked it, that is recorded as the result.

What Are the Best Free ATS Resume Checkers?

The best free ATS resume checker for repeated checks with no account is our own; for feedback on your writing it is Resume Worded, and for tuning a resume to one specific job it is Jobscan. No single tool wins everything, and the column that surprises people most is the first one, because a "free" check often means free only after you make an account.

Trustpilot scores and review counts read from each brand's Trustpilot page in July 2026. Aggregate ratings drift over time. Our tool is new enough that a third-party rating would not mean much yet, so it is left unrated rather than padded.

What Each One Was Actually Like

The table tells you the shape. This tells you what happened when I uploaded the file, what each tool does better than the rest, and the one thing about each I would want to know first.

ATS Resume Checker

Free score, no signup: YesWe build this

What happened when I ran it. I uploaded the test resume and had a 100 out of 100 format score in a few seconds, no signup, five of five format checks passed. To score keyword match I had to paste a job posting, and the full report asked me to create a free account.

Where it wins

The only tool here that scores your formatting without uploading your file, and the only one with no cap on how many times you re-check.

The catch

The instant score covers format and parsing only. Keyword match against a specific job and the full 30-plus check report need a free account.

Jobscan

Free score, no signup: NoTrustpilot 4.3 (330)

What happened when I ran it. The scanner link sent me straight to a signup page. I could not get a match rate without creating an account, so the wall is the finding.

Where it wins

The deepest keyword and match-rate targeting against one specific job posting. If you are tuning a resume for a single role, nothing else here reads the job description as closely.

The catch

You cannot see a score without an account, five scans a month runs out fast, and unlimited scanning means Premium at roughly 50 dollars a month.

Enhancv

Free score, no signup: PartialTrustpilot 4.6 (946)

What happened when I ran it. The free checker page is upfront about the 27 checks and category scores. The flow is built to email you the action list, so plan on handing over an address.

Where it wins

The clearest read on design and layout, with a category breakdown that tells you whether your problem is structure, content, or design.

The catch

It wants your email to send the full task list, and the deeper human-reader feedback sits behind the paid plan.

Resume Worded

Free score, no signup: NoTrustpilot 4.8 (2,989)

What happened when I ran it. I hit a 'create a free account to continue' wall before any score appeared. The feedback behind it is strong, but you commit before you see it.

Where it wins

The best written feedback of the group. It reads your bullet points like an editor and tells you which ones are weak, not just whether the file parses.

The catch

Even the free score needs an account. There is no look-first option before you sign up.

Kickresume

Free score, no signup: NoTrustpilot 4.6 (3,767)

What happened when I ran it. The pricing page is clear that the ATS Resume Checker lives in the Premium tier. The free plan does not include it, so it does not really belong on a free-checker list, and that is worth knowing before you sign up expecting one.

Where it wins

A polished builder and a large template library, with the checker bundled in once you pay.

The catch

The ATS checker is not free at all. It starts around 4 dollars a month on the annual plan and needs an account.

MyPerfectResume

Free score, no signup: PartialTrustpilot 4.6 (18,741)

What happened when I ran it. The scan itself is reachable, but the useful part, the fixes and the download, is behind payment. The billing reputation is the real reason for caution here.

Where it wins

Broad file support, including DOC, PDF, RTF, and TXT, with a quick strength score you can reach without an upfront account.

The catch

The fixes and the download are paywalled, and the service has drawn repeated billing complaints from users, who report monthly charges after the free flow and trouble removing card details. Watch the checkout.

Which Free ATS Resume Checker Should You Use?

Pick by the job in front of you, not by an overall winner. Here is the one I would open for each situation, including the times I would not open ours.

  1. 01

Repeated free checks with no account

    ATS Resume Checker

Instant format score, no signup, no scan cap. Re-run it after every edit. This is the one category I would pick us for.

  2. 02

Tuning a resume for one specific job

    Jobscan

The deepest keyword and match-rate read against a single posting. Worth the account and the five-scan cap if you are targeting one role.

  3. 03

Feedback on how your bullets are written

    Resume Worded

Editor-style, line-by-line notes on your writing, not just a parse check. You sign up first, but the feedback is the best here.

  4. 04

A read on design and layout

    Enhancv

A clear category breakdown that separates a layout problem from a wording one. Expect to hand over an email to get the full task list.

  5. 05

A quick strength score across many file types

    MyPerfectResume

Fast and format-friendly, but the fixes are paywalled and the billing reputation is poor. Read the checkout screen before you enter a card.

Honesty Check

Where I Would Not Pick Us

I build one of these tools, so the useful thing I can do is be precise about where it loses. Three places, named.

  1. 01

Our instant score is the format half, not the keyword half. It tells you fast and free whether a parser can read your resume. To score keyword match against a specific job, or to see the full 30-plus check report and the AI fixes, you create a free account. That account is free, but it is still a step the instant score does not need.

  2. 02

For feedback on your writing, Resume Worded is better. We check whether your bullets parse and match. Resume Worded reads them like an editor and tells you which lines are weak. If your resume already parses fine and the problem is the writing, sign up for that one.

  3. 03

For one specific job, Jobscan reads deeper. When you are tailoring a resume to a single posting and want the closest possible keyword read, Jobscan's match-rate work is deeper than our instant check. You pay for it, and you burn one of five monthly free scans, but the depth is real.

Free ATS Checker FAQs

The questions people ask before they hand a resume to one of these tools. Still stuck? Contact us and we will help.

What is the best free ATS resume checker?

For repeated free checks with no account, our own ATS Resume Checker is the one I reach for, and I build it, so weigh that. It gives an instant format score with no signup and no scan limit. If you want line-by-line writing feedback, Resume Worded is better. If you are tuning a resume for one specific job, Jobscan reads the posting more deeply. No single tool wins every category.

Is there a free ATS resume checker with no sign up?

Yes. Our ATS Resume Checker returns an instant format and readability score with no account and no scan limit; you only sign up if you want the full 30-plus check report. Most others gate the score: Jobscan and Resume Worded require an account before you see any number, and Enhancv asks for your email to send the results.

Are free ATS resume checkers accurate?

They are accurate about parsing and formatting, which is what they can actually measure, and only approximate about the score. No checker can see the real algorithm inside Workday or Greenhouse, so treat the number as a preview, not a verdict. The same resume can move ten points between two tools. The feedback that produced the number matters more than the number.

Is Jobscan free?

Partly. Jobscan has a permanent free plan with five scans a month, but you need an account to see a score, and unlimited scanning requires a paid plan at roughly 50 dollars a month. Its strength is deep keyword matching against a single job posting, which is worth the account if that is what you need.

Does Resume Worded require an account?

Yes. Resume Worded asks you to create a free account before it shows any score, even on the free tier. There is no look-first option. The written feedback behind the wall is the best of the tools I tested, so the trade is real feedback for an email address.

Which free ATS checker does not upload my resume to a server?

Of the tools I tested, our ATS Resume Checker is the one that runs the instant check in your browser, so your file only reaches a server if you choose to continue to the full report. Every other tool here uploads your resume to run the scan. If keeping the file on your device matters, that is the difference to look for.

How many times can I check my resume for free?

It depends on the tool. Our checker has no limit on the instant score, so you can re-check after every edit. Jobscan caps the free plan at five scans a month. Most others do not publish a hard number but push you toward a paid plan once you want to act on the feedback. Re-checking after each change is the whole point, so a cap works against you.
